NYPL - Graphic Directive

2019
Bound - 9” x 6” (closed) / 9” x 12” (open)
Analysis of directional and instructional signage within the NYPL -  Mid-Manhattan Branch.

Part of a research project on NYC libraries, this book discusses design standards used throughout the New York Public Library’s wayfinding and instructional signage. Graphics were analyzed in terms of hierarchy, use of symbols, and other typographic qualities.
Signage is represented by abstract diagrams showing elements’ occupation of space, with those elements extracted and shown individually for discusssion. Using this method, one is able to focus on individual treatments as well as spatial layout. Additionally, these graphics may be viewed in entirety in the last few pages of the book.
